You can’t take the bar out of the band….
*You can take the band out of the bar, but you can’t take the bar out of the band.
Talented musicians, blessed by God with enormous amounts of creativity, often cannot navigate past the typical bar scene. A barroom, according to Websters, is an establishment whose main feature is a bar from which liqour is sold. A “bar” is a long piece of wood. A “bar” is also a barrier or obstacle.
Notice there’s no mention of music in these definitions.
Because bars offer bands the opportunity to perform (we love them for this) we often find ourselves in them. Bars are often, but not always, havens for drinking, smoking, illicite drugs, encounters with strangers, and odd conduct. It’s easy to find ourselves immersed in bar life, living night to night in a sort of dark soap opera. We may find ourselves drinking too much, hanging out with the wrong crowd, as mom would say and generally becoming unmotivated and off track from our hopes, dreams and ambitions.
Don’t be a person who cannot detach from the nighttime drama of bar life. Aim for high aspirations, soar above the fray and recognize your extreme and true potential in the sweet light of day.
