Larger than Life
If your daily life seems poor, do not blame it; blame yourself that you are not poet enough to call forth its riches; for the Creator, there is no poverty.
Rainer Maria Rilke
When we consider larger than life characters, pop stars, athletes and movie moguls come to mind. Larger than life is Donald Trump, Warren Buffett, Lady Ga Ga. Seldom do we consider our own potential to be larger than life as we slog through daily life barely noticing the world around us.
Musicians, until they reach a pinnacle of success (and that’s different things to different people) often live in a type of poverty, whether it is of the soul or of circumstance. Success is not necessarily the same ideal from one artist to another. Some simply want to be left alone, to have time to create and others wish to be adored, rich in every sense of the word, and legendary.
Musicians create from the ether. From the netherworld of silence they construct notes and string together melodies. An idea becomes lyrical and out of nothingness a song is born.
It does seem rather mystical. Much like a miracle. Much like a masterful manifestation. Much like being larger than life.
