Buzz Lightyear to the rescue

YOU! ARE! A! TOYYYYY! You aren’t the real Buzz Lightyear! You’re – you’re an action figure!
You are a child’s play thing!
Buzz: You are a sad, strange little man, and you have my pity.

Woody finds Buzz dressed up as “Mrs. Nesbitt” and in the company of two headless dolls]
Woody: What happened to you?
Buzz: One minute you’re defending the whole galaxy, and, suddenly, you find yourself sucking down Darjeeling with… Marie Antoinette and her little sister.

I received one of the best toys ever for my 40th birthday (12 years ago). Boyfriend gave me a full size Buzz Lightyear action figure. My favorite words he speaks are “To infinity AND BEYOND!”

I became enamored with Buzz after seeing Toy Story. After believing he is the “real” Buzz Lightyear, stationed in the Gama Quadrant of Sector 9, he has crash landed on an alien planet (Andy’s room) and now must repair his spaceship to get back home.

In a series of events, Buzz learns just who he is. He is a child’s plaything, a toy, not the “real” Buzz Lightyear. His spiraling self-esteem takes a final blow as he’s dressed as a doll to have tea with Sid’s sister. Buzz could have remained in the pit of despair but he discovers, through Woody’s help, divine inspiration and rediscovers his true worth. His true sense of self.

Buzz lives and indeed thrives in his new status as Andy’s plaything and becomes part of the Toy community.

We all have dreams. We may even have convinced ourselves that we are someone different by the way we dress, the phone we carry and the car we drive. But in the end, when all is said and done, we are all simply parts of the community, interconnected in the universe by forces at molecular levels that scientists are only now beginning to discover.

You protect the galaxy from the threat of invasion through your thoughts. You come in peace through your actions. You can soar (or fall gracefully) to infinity and beyond.
