Billy Reeves from the BBC recognized British music producer, Ian Shaw as, “…a bit of a legend, his studio is responsible for some of the most important indie records ever to come out of London.”
Indeed, over Shaw’s thirty years as a producer, engineer and label owner, he’s worked with a plethora of artists and styles. In the 70’s, he pioneered sounds for the radical punk movement. In the 90’s he was widely revered as the producer of choice for the UK’s Riot Grrrl bands. Shaw has had hits on both sides of the Atlantic as a producer and engineer.
But there was one thing in music world he’d never done: host a radio show. After moving from London to Key West earlier this year, that is now another accomplishment on his very long impressive list.
“I had lunch with Jack from Pirate Radio, just lunch, mind you, ” recalls Shaw. “And he asked if I wanted to perhaps host a radio show that featured indie and unsigned music. How could I refuse!”
Shaw quickly recorded a mock up show and, less than three weeks after the initial inquiry from Pirate Radio, had The Indie and Unsigned Show ready to air.
“It’s really a show that digs into my big pile of influential music. It’s everything from punk to bands to singer/songwriter tunes. Our first show featured the first USA play of the new single from Julian Lennon and Matt Backer.
The Indie and Unsigned Show with host UK record producer Ian Shaw now airs every Sunday evenings on WKYZ Pirate Radio Key West. Shaw showcases the groups he’s worked with over the years as well as a bit of new music he’s come across while producing and engineering records and spans years as well as genres.
