Poco’s Paul Cotton Releases new record
100% Paul Cotton: Authentic, True music from an American Master
Paul Cotton, remembered most for his stellar work with Poco, has released 100% Paul Cotton, a new record, with eleven songs. The unique voice and lyricist for iconic tunes like “Heart of the Night” and “Bad Weather”, has been a resident of Key West, Florida for the past nine years.
“I feel really fortunate to live here and be surrounded by the multitude of talent-musically and theatrically, every kind of artist,” says Cotton. “I stay really busy with my group of musicians here, perform in venues and devote time to fund-raising and philanthropic projects.” Fans are delighted to find Cotton performing around Key West. “It’s always such a joy to meet fans and I’m encouraged by them to continue my career.”
Cotton’s career has spanned decades. He’s known best for his seminal work with Poco and counts among his musical friends from Poco – Richey Furay, Jim Messina and Timothy B. Schmidt of the Eagles. He still performs with legends from other bands in the country rock and rock and roll genre.
“I’ll be reunited with the members of Poco in January for our induction into the Colorado Hall of Fame along with The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Manassas (Chris Hillman and Stephen Stills), Firefall and Steve Martin,” says Cotton. “There’s the big Paul Cotton Band Cruise from February 27- March 02, 2015. And I’ll be touring the US during the spring and summer.”
London native and Key West resident Ian Shaw, with Warmfuzz Records (Bill Blue, Matt Backer), mixed Cotton’s latest record.
“Coming from England, I’d heard of Poco, but the only track of theirs that I knew was”Rose Of Cimarron” which was a hit in the UK,” says Shaw. “I think in some way, this gave me some advantage in mixing new versions of some of Paul Cotton’s greatest songs, as I didn’t get bogged down by what the original versions sounded like.
“Working with Ian was an absolute pleasure,” adds Paul. “His knowledge and professional background was invaluable to me and my engineer, Russ Scavelli. Ian’s gear is vintage and modern. He is extremely creative in his approach to mixing. The legendary Denis Blackham at Skye Mastering in Scotland did a great job mastering 100% Paul Cotton.” Cotton notes this newest release is a volume one, and he is working on plans with Ian Shaw for a volume two along with more recordings featuring new material. “The first 500 copies of 100% Paul Cotton are autographed and the response for pre-sales have been overwhelming!” says Cotton.
